Weekend Random
I had plans on going out last night with Dan and Shanna, only I was still feeling sick as dog shit and needed the rest. Goddamned fucking Northern Japan weather! It's mid-May and still it's in the high 40's/low 50's. Considering that Misawa is on the same latitude as New York City, it makes me wonder what the fuck kinda weather the New Yorkers get. I've been to NYC once in September and don't remember it being that horrible either. I suppose with Japan being so close to Russia, the weather is hella fucked up the majority of the year. Whatever.
The plan this weekend is to roam around aimlessly, do some laundry, get some Beef Dun-bu-ri at the Cheese Roll Restaurant off base and perhaps go drinking tonight instead. Monday I leave bright and early for Tokyo aboard the Bullet Train.
I'm getting the impression that my staying with Dan and Shanna is starting to put a strain on them - at least Dan since he's not used to having a continual house guest over for such an extended period. While Shanna is glad to have someone to talk to finally, I think there are times when Dan is reluctant to go out and do stuff with me. It's cool considering he could be a total prick, kick me out and then I'd have to stay in a hotel for the remainder of my time here. While Misawa Billeting is cheaper by the week, those offbase hotels will fucking rape your wallet. The same goes for Tokyo too. Some how Billeting is booked solid for the entire month. How that is possible considering this place is so far removed from the rest of the world and the rest of the military, is anyone's guess.
The BRAC (Base Realignment And Closure) listing was finally released and for once the DoD had their heads on right by chopping all the fucking shitty Air Force bases that nobody wants to get stationed at - shit hole assignments like Cannon AFB and Ellsworth. While I'm not too happy to see Brooks City Base get chopped, I suppose it had been inevitable sooner or later. I suppose that this imaginary search for WMD's has costed the tax-payers more than what the DoD wishes to admit to, and the only way to punish the public even more is by cutting defense spending where it isn't needed.
Mark my words, the GWOT will shift from the Middle East to our own soil within the next 5-10 years and then we'll be double-fucked. We need to focus our spending on Homeland Security more so, including all these fucking illegal aliens we're widely ignoring.
Anycase, if anything else happens this weekend that's noteworthy, I'll make the attempt to write about it before I leave Monday.
