Kunsan 10 Years
Nobody reads this blog, except for one or two people still.....is that you, Melanie?
I remember it was July 2004, when I flew from Japan and took
the Wolf Pack Wheels down from Osan, having a fresh haircut and a new Sony Vaio
laptop in hand. I had just purchased both before the bus ride down – something I
had become a seasoned veteran at doing by that point. By this time, I knew how
the “game” at Kunsan was played, having been there previously in 2001 and 1995 –
1997. I was curious how things were going to unfold there, and despite my
reluctance, I embraced Kunsan with a positive attitude.
I remember meeting the NCOIC and OIC
there at the Rec Center upon my arrival. They went to go
check mail across the street, and that’s when I met you, sitting in the blue
Bongo truck. As we made our introductions, I jokingly said “I can tell you’re
nothing but trouble”. The look on your face was priceless. Perhaps I should've heeded my own advice. The rest, as they say, is history.
I update this blog occasionally now, however back in 2005 it was my
outlet and for a brief moment, fleeting popularity within the blog community. Once
Twitter came on to the scene, blogs instantly became obsolete. I guess
glorified text messaging is the preference of the lamestream masses. I wrote
about my experiences in Korea
in April – June 2005 timeframe.
I still think of you everyday, but no longer am I consumed
with anger, grief, confusion, and regret. I think leaving the Air Force freed
us both, and began a healing process that I was in desperate need of.
